About the event
A descendent of Armenian genocide survivors, Simon Fraser University professor Celeste Nazeli Snowber explores the relationship between longing, belonging and identity. In The Marrow of Longing, her third book of poetry, she traces intergenerational trauma, her own heartaches and bodily yearnings to uncover universal themes. “Fragments can hold a world,” she says.
Celeste recalls the lessons learned in kitchen conversations with her Armenian mother, biographical details, traditional recipes, and ancestral wisdom; in doing so she leads readers to discover what has shaped their own lives.
The Marrow of Longing is available through HARP Publishing and features artist Marsha Nouritza Obadashian’s artwork. Partial proceeds from the sale of the book will benefit the Atken Armenian Foundation.
